How to Water Your Lawn in a Guelph Summer (Without Wasting a Drop)

The 1-inch rule and the tuna can
A healthy established lawn needs roughly an inch of water a week in summer, rain included. To find out what your sprinkler actually delivers, set an empty tuna can on the lawn and time how long it takes to fill about an inch — that’s your session length. For most sprinklers it’s 45 to 90 minutes, which surprises people used to 15-minute daily sprinkles.
Guelph’s watering rules limit you to your odd/even address day within morning and evening windows — which fits this method perfectly. One deep session on your day beats seven shallow ones you’re not allowed anyway.
Morning is the gold-standard window
